Relax & unwind

At Rowbury Farm Camping you can relax and unwind with a glass of something cold while gazing out over the amazing views or go on a bug hunt with the kids. There is plenty to keep you entertained during your precious time away.

Walking and cycling

Test valley is riddled with public footpaths, permissive bridleways, and way-marked routes. The Test Way can be as hilly or as flat as you like (here it runs along an old railway line) and the River Anton Way runs 10 miles from the Mayfly pub all the way into Andover.  Just down the valley at Chilbolton you can explore the downland nature reserve at West Down or potter in Chilbolton Cow Common on the banks of the River Test. Stockbridge watermeadows is also great for an easy ramble with kids and dogs and there are plenty of places for an ice cream or a cuppa in Stockbridge.

The 246 National cycle route is within a few  metres of our gate and we are close to the King Alfred’s Way Long Distance Cycling route. May cyclists use us as a stopping point on all sorts of long distance trips - Bristol to Singapore probably takes the biscuit.

Historic Test Valley

From the campsite you can see Danebury Hill Fort which, as well as being an amazing viewpoint,  has had extensive archaeological excavation. You can peruse some of the findings at Andover’s Iron Age Museum. Mottisfont Abbey is a magnificent National Trust property about 10 miles away down the Test Valley and makes an excellent (not too challenging) cycle ride.

The Army Air Flying Corp Museum is close by at Wallop. It is packed with historic planes and flying related memorabilia and is definitely worth a visit.

If you fancy a stroll through mediaeval streets, do some shopping and enjoy a coffee- maybe even a cake(!) - then Salisbury and Winchester are within  30 minutes drive. For something a bit more big city Southampton is 45 minutes with docks, shopping malls and nightlife.

Local shops

For those essential barbecue ingredients The Clatford Village shop is a mile down the road  in Goodworth Clatford.

Stockbridge is excellent for a browsing shops, having a coffee and checking out the enormous trout in the stream crossing the High Street. Highlights include: Thyme & Tides deli for great food and coffee; John Robinson Butchers for excellent cuts, Mokaya Cocoa for amazing chocolate; Orvis for fishing gear and clothing; Wine Utopia for joy and The Little Whisky Shop for, well, whisky (you won’t believe how many types).

Leckford Estate Farm Shop is between us and Stockbridge is well worth popping into for quality food and it has a cafe and a nursery attached. For the big supermarkets then there is Andover (Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Lidl and ASDA).

Eating and drinking

But you are on holiday! There is pub-dining aplenty, with the Clatford Arms and Royal Oak in Goodworth Clatford, The Mayfly just down the Test Way and The Peat Spade Inn in Longstock has an excellent reputation. There are several great pubs in Stockbridge and nearby villlages If you don’t feel like camp cooking….

Family fun

For the adventurous types there is Treerunners just up Cowdown Lane and of course Ironsight Urban Paintball next door to us, an outdoor activity centre for all the family. A little less boisterous is Finkley Down Farm and Cholderton Rare Breeds.

The Hawk Conservancy is highly recommended as a fantastic place to see all kinds of birds of prey; there are regular displays when falcons, hawks, vultures and owls are flown by expert handlers.

For the grown ups what about a little wine tasting at Blackchalk wines just over the hill in Cottonworth? Did you know we produce sparkling wines here that rival those of the Champagne area of France?  And of course, we are only 30 minutes drive away from Stonehenge.

All this and more is within a 25mile radius of Rowbury Farm Camping
